Glyphs, in German: Glyphen, are special characters, appearing in many fonts, but quite uncommon in use, as there is not a special key on your keyboard representing them. By using UTF 16 / UTF 8 you will find – surprise – superscript numbers, small caps letters, trademark signs, abbreviation signs for ”number“ (no.), greek letters, signs for eternity, or new stars (asterisk), ansd many, many more. In many different fonts. Use the tools, which are available to embed these special charachters, or use copy and paste. It is worth a try.
I needed at last ”Naive CD4⁺ T Cell Isolation Kit“ instead of ”Naive CD4+ T Cell Isolation Kit“ (without superscript in html, as this changed my line height), and ”for 1×10⁹“ instead of ”for 1×109“ – yes, there is a multiplication sign available instead of an x.
Have fun with better typography!
